Yutavia George is an artist and educator. She has a Master of Fine Art in Drawing from Paris College of Art, and a Bachelor of Art in Art Education from the University of The Bahamas. She is currently pursuing a second Master of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. George has participated in several Bahamian national art exhibitions, international showcases (specifically, The Bahamas, Italy, Beijing, France), and has contributed to diverse artist-in-residence programs (in The Bahamas, France, Beijing). Currently, Yutavia George lives and works in Chicago, in the United States.
Yutavia George’s current work explores identity and one’s ever-changing environment. Her work manifests itself through the routes of drawing, painting, installation, and performance, and she is currently focused on the visibility and invisibility of labor, physicality, and atmospheric charges. Her work is concerned with notations of time by mapping changes within the physical space. She manipulates various media to convey physiological and psychological changes. George often varies her process by working in series and creating new instruments that create unexpected gestures. Her work can seem rhythmic and sequential.
