Wendell Mc Shine

Interdisciplinary visual artist Wendell Mc Shine’s practice spans many media, including painting, sculpture, and installation

Experimental animation. He employs a dynamic range of mark-making, playful materials, and pictorial combinations, impactfully and seamlessly generating a unique improvisational visual language that reflects his Caribbean heritage (Trinidad and Tobago), questions of migration

and identity, and congregates into a totemic system of materials and their meanings.

Wendell is comfortable working in animation experiments, 2D/3D,

tape, and cardboard, as in stop-motion or XR, taking the same exploratory approach across media and freely combining them. The essence of his work, as he describes it, is “It’s a cyclic machine of art behaviors”, a reflection of the way identity can be shaped through a combination of

traditional and contemporary ways of making and empathic engagement with the world.

Wendell has an international career. Recent public screenings include the New York Indie Shorts Awards 2024, Eyeworks 2024, the Brooklyn International Short Film Awards 2024, and the Gently Creative Lab NY 2025.
