Founded by Dr. Myrtis Bedolla in 2006, Galerie Myrtis has become one of Baltimore’s most influential art galleries, showcasing African American artists and those from the African diaspora. The gallery’s mission is to present art reflecting the Black experience while engaging with broader social and cultural issues. It has earned both national and international acclaim for its culturally relevant exhibitions. Dr. Bedolla has curated numerous impactful shows, including the award-winning Afro-Futurist Manifesto: Blackness Reimagined, which was featured at the 2022 Venice Biennale. Galerie Myrtis has been praised by major publications like The Washington Post for its innovative approach. On the international stage, the gallery’s participation in the 2019 Havana Biennale further solidified its reputation as a leader in contemporary art.
