Born on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas, to a teacher and farmer; art and nature have always been a part of my life. Growing up on a rural island named Eleuthera, I was always surrounded by the natural beauty of the environment. The colours, sounds, smells and taste of the island life acquainted my mind with the wealth of beauty to be sought on a day to day basis. After leaving this picturesque utopia, I was strewn into the urban sprawl of Nassau, located on New Providence. This new environment seemed familiarly foreign to me, and I contended daily to remain inspired and enchanted with my beautiful country. After attending The College of the Bahamas I obtained a AA in Fine Arts and B.ed
Secondary Art Education. During this period, I became more exposed to contemporary practices and dove into experimentation with various mediums. I looked for inspiration not only from masters of the renaissance era, but Bahamian masters as well. Brent Malone, John Beadle, John Cox, helped refine my eye for colour and their interactions on the picture plane. The works of Antonius Roberts and Tyrone Ferguson furthered my understanding of working in the third dimension, and the processes involved in creating such works. Moving away from the traditional two dimensional picture plane in recent
years, I have become intrigued by the process of life casting and sculpture. Contemplating the journey of solving each unique problem through the exploration of natural material and concept; juxtaposition of natural and unnatural, traditional and non-traditional, I feel as if I have found a particular style that satisfies my own personal interpretation of beauty in the world around me.
