Alia Tamar is a Colombian-Bahamian ceramicist. Her work is a contemporary exploration of heritage, inspired by the folklore and traditions of her cultures. Alia creates ceramic sculptures that reinterpret traditional vessels, transforming them with modern forms and shapes. The works highlight the clay body mostly, this means that there is little to no glaze used in the creative process. This approach allows Alia to connect with the spiritual and sculptural significance of her ancestors’ methods, creating a personal narrative that honors the past while adding to an ongoing cultural story.
